Alchemy

The final piece for an independent study that began as a figurative, illustrative investigation of alchemical imagery, and then transformed (alchemically? ha) into an abstract study of color and form in rusted and corroded metal (inspired by the photography of David Maisel, particularly his book Library of Dust).

This is the biggest painting I've ever done (though still not big enough for my instructor), and the most loose/free/process-oriented...and I actually really like it (gasp). It's enormous, though, and is currently sitting in my closet because there's nowhere else to put it.
